Craig’s List: Trevor Deep Jr.

Tuesday, April 14th, 2015

Every fortnight, RTRFM’s Craig Hollywood brings us a little taste of what to expect from Tuesday’s Full Frequency…

The mysterious Trevor Deep Jr announces the release of a 2×12” project on the HPTY label. Featuring seven tracks and coming out on limited vinyl, as well as 50 copies on cassette tape, the release is further testament to his skill of crafting deeply emotive sounds, and it will be released in May 2015.

Inspired by the likes of Larry Heard and Moodymann, Trevor Deep Jr. has been releasing his own smoked out take on house music since 2011. It has been lifted on labels like Delsin and Nsyde as well as his own outlet and often features a striking sample or memorable chord.

For the people who know what deep house music really sounds like.

Craig’s List: Adesse Versions

Tuesday, March 31st, 2015

Every fortnight, RTRFM’s Craig Hollywood brings us a little taste of what to expect from Tuesday’s Full Frequency…

You may have caught the track Pride in recent Jackmaster and Spencer sets over the past few months, but it’s now being let out in the wild on the Numbers label out of Glasgow.

The overall simplicity of the elements is the strength here, the creeping discord of the piano, the slow sub rolls, the sheer power of the vocal, baked together with sharp drum boxes, space echoes and Adesse’s arsenal of production wisdom.

Pride is released through Numbers on vinyl on March 31st.

The Resin imprint kicks off 2015 in monstrous style by introducing Perth Drug Legend to the front line, the demented project of Liam Robertson and one half of the mighty Clouds outfit out of Scotland.

With the Broxden Burners EP on West End Communications and a remix on Canada’s Turbo Recordings, Resin introduces Clubbers Guide to Craigie, a session of dark sludgy techno.

Craig’s List: Glacial

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2015

Every fortnight, RTRFM’s Craig Hollywood brings us a little taste of what to expect from Tuesday’s Full Frequency…

Glacial is the joint project of renowned Greek techno producer Giorgos Lemos, simply known as Lemos — and saxophonist/experimental artist Ilan Manouach. Their debut was a self-titled LP on the Hotel Costes series, released to critical acclaim in the beginning of 2012. Ricardo Villalobos called it “the album of his dreams” while the media described its abstract, minimal, dubby, jazzy electronic music as hardcore lounge, elevator techno.

Almost three years later, they make their glorious return with a two-track EP on a 12’’ vinyl, taking a more dancefloor-friendly direction, but retaining their Balkan-jazzified tastes. This release is essential for any fan of the Basic Channel, dub techno based movements.

The Entropy EP will be released through Six D.o.g.s Records on February 23.

Craig’s List: Dan Shake

Tuesday, January 20th, 2015

Every fortnight, RTRFM’s Craig Hollywood brings us a little taste of what to expect from Tuesday’s Full Frequency…

It’s no surprise that the Black Acre label are pretty damn excited about starting 2015 with a 12” from new sensation on the circuit Dan Shake. He is the first artist outside of Detroit to cut his teeth on Moodymann’s Mahogani Music, winning plaudits here and across the Atlantic for his catchy groove laden 3AM Jazz Club EP. Now with much anticipation, the Tony Allen & Fela Kuti acolyte returns with two crunchy Dilla-eque takes on soulful club music.

“Out of Sight” is a carefully constructed dance floor number packed with low-end theory and seductive vocal stabs. Low-slung fuzzy bass swinging perfectly between ghost-horns and driving drums.

Make sure and jump onto this one, it’s released through Black Acre on Feb 2.

Craig’s List: Mind Against

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2014

Every fortnight, RTRFM’s Craig Hollywood brings us a little taste of what to expect from Tuesday’s Full Frequency…

Once again Mind Against bring their signature sound to Life and Death as they explore territory that is somehow both familiar and fresh at the same time. With two tracks of emotional techno that traverse a dynamic sonic landscape, both Strange Days and Polarstern could easily captivate a small room or command a small army with ease.

Bringing an understated counterpoint to the EP is Recondite’s subtle yet rich sounding take on Strange Days as he reworks it into a soft and sexy trip that seems to take you on a journey outwards and inwards — all while standing still in that place where words have no meaning. A well-crafted remix of the highest order.

The Strange Days EP will be available for purchase on the 15th of December 2014.

Craig’s List: Sterac

Tuesday, November 18th, 2014

Every fortnight, RTRFM’s Craig Hollywood brings us a little taste of what to expect from Tuesday’s Full Frequency…

After a blistering return on a recent Klockworks EP, Dutch techno practitioner Steve Rachmad aka Sterac is back with a cracking new track for Delsin. Originally released on a limited white label run earlier in summer, it now comes backed with remixes by Fachwerk’s Mike Dehnert, VRIL and US twosome Anthony Parasole & Phil Moffa, as well as with some typically textural and boutique artwork by the excellent Boris Tellegen.

The original track is a stripped back bit of dub, deep, rolling techno with icy percussion and subtle synths working to take over your mind and body alike. German Dystopian cohort VRIL, who has also appeared on this label before, turns in a dub mix that is more urgent and is fleshed out with even more dub synths and stern kicks. It’s supple and minimal but will certainly turn plenty of heads in the right club space. New Yorkers Anthony Parasole and Phil Moffa from the The Corner label then remix the track into something with paranoid synth loops, pounding drums and urgent, rave infections the longer it roll on. Finally, the one and only Mike Dehnert repackages the track as a swimming, funky bit of heavyweight techno. His weird hooks, coarse percussion and intense hats make it the most arresting and urgent of the lot.

This release is seriously streamlined, groove driven techno from a group of modern masters, and will be available on 8 December through Delsin.

Craig’s List: Stillhead

Tuesday, October 7th, 2014

Every fortnight, RTRFM’s Craig Hollywood will bring us a little taste of what to expect from Tuesday’s Full Frequency…

Deep, electronic music. The hazy, blurred overlap between techno and ambient, the dubbed out fringes of house and melancholy bass or the closing gap which separates d&b from dub-techno, it’s all within our Brightest Dark Place. A state of mind. A gut feeling. A reactionary state. Everyone has their own Brightest Dark Place. Join UK artist Stillhead in his.

It has been a year of change for Alex Cowles. After retiring his DFRNT alias, alongside his Echodub label, he has made a fresh start with something new. Working under the alias Stillhead, he has launched a new label: Brightest Dark Place, and arriving with it, the Dwelling EP.

This is a must for any fan of ambient, dub techno or all round high grade electronica.

The Dwelling EP will be release on Brightest Dark Place on December 1.
