Vinyl Retention: Daphni

Wednesday, October 10th, 2012

Every Wednesday, Sardi lets us know what’s tickling his eardrums in the world of dance music…

DaphniConsidering his hectic touring schedule, it’s quite surprising to see a new LP by Dan Snaith, known to most as Caribou.

The Canadian producer has resurrected his Daphni alias and dropped a nine track album titled Jialong. His first full length under the Daphni moniker sees him take a somewhat different direction that most Caribou fans are used to, exploring familiar dance floor rhythms and murky analog textures.

His own words ‘I’d fallen back in love with moments in small, dark clubs when a DJ puts on a piece of music that not only can you not identify but that until you heard it, you could not have conceived of it existing’ do a fantastic job in really summing up what this LP is. Sounds seem to come out of nowhere, but at the same time, retain a sense of familiarity from what you’ve heard before.

A really great debut from an amazing producer.

If you like what you hear, be sure to tune in to RTRFM’s Full Frequency between 3pm and 5pm, as Sardi and Dart explore the world of Drum and Bass and beyond.
