Anger Management: Rotten Sound

Monday, April 15th, 2013

Over the last week or so, Finnish grind merchants Rotten Sound have been blasting their way around the country on the back of their new EP Species At War.

Sunday night saw them wrap up their tour in Perth amid very little fanfare, but served their ferocious grind goods to a ravenous horde of local punters.

While the Hool (Hip/Cool) kids seem to have moved on from Grindcore these days, Rotten Sound have continued to deliver their buzz saw groove laden, and mercilessly punishing Grindcore for 20 years now.

Their new release is nice and uneasy on the ear, yet the production is razor sharp and edgy and doesn’t stray too far at all from what they’ve done in the past. If you want to get the gist of what this band can do with Grind, then spend 100 seconds of your time checking out the two epic tracks of the EP, “War” and “The Solution” , which is probably the best examples of the way some of the sound elements are fleshed out by the band, using fast and slow tempos.

FFO – Early Napalm Death, Disfear, Entombed, and of course Nasum.
Clocking in at eight minutes, you can get your Rotten Sound fix in around the same time that you can heat up a frozen dinner.
