Get out of the KHole and into the Vhol

Thursday, April 11th, 2013

Normally I like my heavy music slow and deliberate. I love a grinding doom laden sludge. Think Earth, Sleep, Electric Wizard and Sabbath and you will be about where much of my metal love lies. There is something soothing, meditative and sedating about the opiate-like stoner jams that really make me sink deeper into my bean bag with my furry face fed with my favourite stew or soup of the moment.

Vhol however are nothing like this. Forget speed metal this is PCP metal. Not always precise, not close to clean (I doubt they have bathed this year) but some dbeat/thrash/black metal/hardcore hybrid that really speaks to me. It is furious and fast and invigorating. Vhol features Yob front man Mike Scheidt (YOB) on vocal duties, John Cobbett (Hammers of Misfortune) on guitar, Sigrid Sheie (Hammers of Misfortune) on bass and backing vocals and Aesop Dekker (Agalloch) on drums.

The self-titled Vhole debut is out next week on Profound Lore. Go get it if you can keep up the pace. In the mean time here is the stand out, Grace.
