Funding MIA for NITV

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

National Indigenous Television has begun a public campaign highlighting that the federal government hasn’t yet announced plans to continue to provide funding past June this year.

The Station has received 48 million dollars in government funding since its establishment in 2006 – and without it, they’ll have to stop broadcasting.

They need public support, and to find out how we can help Meri Fatin caught up with NITV Head of Content Management and Digital Media, Tanya Denning on Morning Magazine

The Kimberley’s peak Indigenous representative body has spoken out against environmental groups opposing industrial development in Broome.

The Kimberley Land Council says The Wilderness Society and Save the Kimberley are damaging Broome’s local Indigenous communities.

The KLC has publicly supported the proposed multi-billion-dollar gas hub at James Price Point north of Broome – in the hope that it will create jobs and boost the local economy.

They’re calling on environmental groups to respect the KLC’s decision to support the proposed development.

Wind Farm for the Future

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Construction of WA’s largest wind farm is getting underway soon.

The 750 million dollar development will be located at Collgar – 250 kilometres east of Perth – and will provide more than three per cent of the state’s energy.

Behind the development is a new wind-mapping technology that’s taking the guesswork out of finding ideal locations for wind energy farms.

And one of the scientists behind it is DR. NATHAN STEGGEL.

Meri Fatin caught up with Dr Steggel on Morning Magazine.

X-Pressions

And from the ashes we rise. Having survived the most fearsome tempest since a couple of cows hitched a ride with Moses, the reconstruction effort is in full swing. In fact, X-Press just  got off the blower with an insider over at the Australian Bureau Of Statistics who informed us that, not only are the storm survivors returning in droves, but Perth is on track to more than double its population by 2050 – 3.8 million sandgropers, up from 1.7 million today.

ROLLIN IN IT

Henry Rollins is a busy man. As a DJ, stand-up comedian, writer, actor and spoken word artist, Rollins barely gets a chance to pump iron – but that’s just the way he likes it. In 2010, Rollins’ busy schedule will see him stop off in Australia for a quick tour, with shows at the Astor Theatre on Saturday, May 1, and Sunday, May 2. Rollins’ Frequent Flyer Tour will be a spoken word affair, focusing on travel – an occupational hazard! Tickets are on sale now from BOCS.
