X-PRESSIONS

You have got to ask the question: if Woodside found gas deep below Colin Barnett’s house in Claremont would they bash it down to make way for a gas plant? The answer is, of course, a resounding no. Well, on Tuesday the High Court effectively connected the electricity to the green light necessary for the construction of a mega gas plant at James Price Point, north of Broome – smack bang in the middle of Joseph Roe’s allegorical living room.

DARWIN’S THEORY

DARWIN’S THEORY

Music bible NME calls Darwin Deez “Starry-eyed indie pop” which, after seeing the mad cat at Parklife last year, is spot on. The Darwin Deez blend of Brooklyn pop and indie dance has made for spectacular live shows, extravaganzas bristling with energy and positivity. Darwin and his band have been known to break into spontaneous bouts of synchronised yet completely unforced dancing, both ridiculous but at the same time irresistible to watch. Returning to our shores once again, Darwin Deez will be playing a headline show in Perth, as well as performing at Groovin’ The Moo. Catch him at The Bakery on Thursday, May 12. Head to nowbaking.com.au for tickets.

Institut Polaire Split

Friday, February 11th, 2011

Hot on the heels of Snowman’s announcement that they’re going separate ways, another expat Perth outfit has departed. Institut Polaire have revealed that they’re breaking up, stating on their facebook page that “after seven great years together as a band, we’ve decided the time is right to put this old girl out to pasture.”

The band formed in Perth in 2004, expanding to a collective of “between seven and nine members”. Their debut 7?, City Walls and Empires, received an amazing amount of airplay on RTRFM and took out the WAM Song of the Year Competition, while the 2007 EP The Flora and the Fauna followed a signing to Popfrenzy. The band moved to Melbourne in 2008 and last year released their debut LP, Make Your Own Mayflower.

Sad news indeed.
