CASE OF THE HIVES

Don’t be too sad about missing out on Splendour In The Grass tickets – some of the top acts from the festival will be making their way to WA for the second On The Bright Side festival. Last year’s festival, featuring the Strokes and Mumford And Sons, was a huge success and this year’s edition is set to be even bigger. The 2011 festival features Pulp, The Hives, Modest Mouse, Tame Impala, The Kills, The Grates, Foster the People, James Blake, Warpaint, and Tim and Jean. Tickets are $99 and go on sale Friday, June 3, with the festival happening on Saturday, July 23 at Esplanade Park. Don’t miss out!

MIND GAMES

Gomez love Australia – they’ve been touring here for over 10 years and they’re set to do it again this June, in support of their new (and seventh) album Whatever’s On Your Mind. Famous for such tunes as How We Operate, Girlshapedlovedrug and Whippin’ Piccadilly, the UK five-piece have gained a huge following for their experimental indie-rock tunes. LUCY PEACH EP LAUNCH

Lucy Peach, who is the brainchild of Lucy Farley, is happy to announce her EP launch at The Bird on June 5th. Entry is $10 or $15 with a copy of the EP. Helping her craft this EP was Malcolm Clark and Yo-Yo studios. Supporting her will be the Wisher’s and Minky G. The Bird is at 181 William St Northbridge. Tunes begin at 6pm until 10pm.

NEW NIGHTMARE

Though the last few years have been incredibly difficult for Californian five piece Avenged Sevenfold, with the passing of their drummer Jimmy ‘The Rev’ Sullivan, the lads are ready to get back up on the horse with an Australian tour this July and August. Fresh from releasing their fifth studio album Nightmare, Avenged Sevenfold will head to Perth on Saturday, August 6, for a wild concert at Challenge Stadium. It’s been three years since they were last in town so chances are tickets will sell out in no-time, to avoid disappointment hit up Ticketmaster today.

Mental As Anything are legends on the Australian music scene and the soundtrack to many a pub and party sing-a-long. Dubbed Australia’s greatest garage band, the boys are celebrating more than thirty years of touring and recording with the Essential As Anything tour. One of the most innovative Australian bands of the last 15 years, Brisvegas heroes Regurgitator have plotted their Annual Sail tour for the year. HER HINES-NESS

Marcia Hines has had quite a remarkable life. She’s been called Australia’s ‘First Lady Of Song’, she was the first black woman to play Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ Superstar and she managed to judge Australian Idol without strangling any of her co-judges. She’s also been inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame, and now she’s touring the nation with her new album Life. Hines is heading to Perth for one show only at The Astor Theatre on Sunday, June 12.
