BREAKIN’ BEATS

Perth’s most award-winning festival is back at the Belvoir Amphitheatre this Boxing Day for its 11th year running, and the line-up is looking like a cracker. Breakfest 2011 will feature a fine selection of artists from all forms of broken beat, including Bristol breakbeat duo Stanton Warriors, fellow pommy A Skillz, London turntablists Scratch Perverts, Melbourne hip hop extraordinaire Illy, and many more. THE BOWERS’ RELEASE OF ‘ODDS AND EVENS’

Melbourne garage rock band ‘The Bowers’ are preparing for the release of their second LP Odds and Evens, through Cobra Snake Necktie Records/ Love and Theft.

The album was recorded at a local vineyard in the Victorian town of Nagambie and is due for release on October 21 this year.

The band first formed around 2009 and is influenced by pop artists Hoodoo Gurus, Master Apprentices, Blur and Small Faces. They plan to do a national tour after the album’s release, before commencing a Europe tour in April of 2012.

HILL OF FAME

Red Hill Auditorium hosts three ARIA Hall Of Fame acts in what is going to be one massive show on Sunday, December 4. Co-headlined by The Church, who are celebrating their 30th year since forming, and The Triffids presenting their Songs Of David McComb show for the first time in WA since the 2009 Perth International Arts Festival. The Triffids’ show will feature surviving members alongside special guests Mick Harvey, Simon Breed, Rob Snarski and Oh Mercy’s Alexander Gow performing the songs of Born Sandy Devotional. Opening the show is Ed Kuepper of The Saints, Laughing Clowns and now The Bad Seeds, accompanied by Mark Dawson. Tickets go on sale Monday, September 12, from redahillgigs.com.au and Oztix.

Christmas has come early for RocKwiz fans, as they will be touring in December with their live show, bringing you a bag full of festive surprises and all your favourite segments. Julia Zemiro and Brian Nankervis, hosts of the cults SBS quiz show, will be accompanied by an expanded RocKwiz Orkestra, an all-star mystery guest line up, and an always exquisite selection of brave audience members. Grunge lovers unite! Mudhoney are heading to Australia for the sixth time in their 23 year career and they’ve pencilled in a stop at The Rosemount Hotel. The iconic Sub Pop band will play on Saturday, December 3, and it will act as a homecoming for their Perth-born and bred bassist Guy Maddison. HAVE MCFAITH

The king and queen of country music, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are set to tour Australia next year, in what will be their first tour together outside of North America. The pair have been dominating the country music charts since the early ‘90s, having produced 70 million record sales, eight Grammys and 46 number one singles between them. McGraw and Hill will open their tour at The Burswood Dome on Wednesday, March 14. Tickets go on sale at 2pm on Friday, September 16, through Ticketek.

ALAS IT IS ALICE

Alice Cooper fans across Australia were devastated by the cancellation of Soundwave Revolution, but it’s not all bad news because he is still making his way down under. Cooper will tour with his No More Mr Nice Guy show, which Aussie fans are thirsty for after the positive reception it has received in North America. The man who permanently transformed rock’n’roll by introducing horror imagery is heading to Perth for one show only on Sunday, October 2, at Challenge Stadium. GAGA MEETS THE SIMPSONS

Lady GaGa has just completed an episode where she will appear as herself (in cartoon form of course) on the Simpsons.

GaGa joins a list of iconic artists who have lent their voice to the show including the late Johnny Cash and Michael Jackson as well as Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Paul McCartney.

The epidosde will air as part of the show’s 23rd season, which comes out in late September.

Popular Country artist Connie Kis Andersen has just returned from her tour in the US, and it seems her popularity is ever increasing. Her single A man in Boots, is number 5 on the Australian Country tracks Top 30, while her newest album ‘Connie Kis’ is also doing well.

Additionally, her single Steamy Dreams is number 5 on the US main country and indie charts.
