Julia Holter

Monday, May 27th, 2013

Julia Holter’s 2012 release, Ekstasis received much-deserved critical acclaim, so it’s fantastic news to hear that there’s a new record on the way.

Loud City Song is out on Domino in mid-August, and the first track from the record, “World”, has just been released. The track is unrelentingly stark, with Holter’s stunning voice front-and-centre.

Check out the clip to “World”, below.

Vinyl Retention: Calibre

Wednesday, May 22nd, 2013

Every Wednesday, Sardi lets us know what’s tickling his eardrums in the world of electronic music…

Spill is the latest album from D&B maestro Calibre. Not including his unreleased retrospective series Shelflife, this marks the Irish native’s sixth studio album in twelve years.

The LP features the classic Calibre vibes we’ve come to expect in tracks such as ‘Think On’ plus some cheeky funked out goodness with the partial latin stylings of ‘Running’, but the standout of the LP is the closing number and one which will never be heard in a club, ‘Sick Of It All’. Whilst it screams Calibre with it’s deep & emotive vibes, it’s also quite a different slant on his usual sound. Perhaps it’s the erratic drums that underpin the track, but it sounds like something you’d expect to hear on an Amit or Klute album, but I’m thankful that it features on Spill.

Another solid release from a producer that never fails to disappoint.

If you like what you hear, be sure to tune in to RTRFM’s Full Frequency between 3pm & 5pm, as Sardi and Dart explore the latest beats & bass from around the globe.
