Anger Management

In a new, regular column, we check in with all things heavy on RTRFM’s Critical Mass show.

Summer is in full sweaty swing, and with it, comes the various forms of outdoor metal shows and festivals, guaranteed to drain the wallets of all avid Metalheads. Locally this year we, of course, have the Soundwave Festival just around the corner. But in faraway lands there are also some fantastic festivals worth noting. One of which is the 70000 Tons of Metal Festival onboard a cruise liner, departing from Miami in the US, and taking in some of the Islands off the coast of Cuba and the Caribbean with 40 bands from all over the world.

Critical Mass once again had some representation as co-hosts Cameron Foreman and Matt Young are there soaking up the sun and heavy sounds. Can’t wait for the photos and interviews for us on Critical Mass when he returns.

While here in Perth last weekend we had our own smaller version, the 70 tons of Metal with 4 great local bands taking it in turns to brutalise the Swan River in a 4 hour period on a hot, sweaty night of fun.

There’s nothing quite like heavy music on a boat in an open river or sea.

Tune to Critical Mass tomorrow night on RTRFM 92.1, which will feature some of the bands on these voyages, plus Southern Rock & Sludge band Bayou in the studio.
