We spend a couple of minutes with Good Heavens and find out what’s happening…
What’s going on in the world of Good Heavens?
We just saw our album, the finished product, for the first time. We were supposed to be rehearsing but we went down to The Golden Barley Hotel in Enmore and drank champagne instead.
What motivates you to make music?
The beast within.
What have been the high and low points of your musical experiences so far?
Well I’d rather not think about the low points if it’s all the same to you.
My favourite moments always have to do with writing a new song, or recording something magical, or those happy accidents in rehearsal that turn out to be great ideas.
Cat Power telling me she liked my old band’s name was pretty good too. “I lahke all y’alls bayund nayum”. That sexy southern drawl of hers.
What music are you listening to at the moment?
Last night I listened to Hella and Death Grips. That drummer is something else. But I’ve been stuck on The Beatles’ White Album for a while now.
If you were stranded on a desert island, which member of the band would get eaten first?
The biggest one! That’s Chris.
Here’s an opportunity to bitch about something, whether music related or not. What really pisses you off?
So many things… sigh…
Why do things always break? Why haven’t I learnt how to solder yet? Why will my record player only work in mono? Etc etc
You’re putting together your perfect gig featuring Australian artists? Who would you get to play and where? Feel free to include acts/DJs/bands/venues that no longer exist.
It would be at The Hopetoun Hotel. The air-conditioning would be broken, it’d be packed, but it’d be awesome anyway.
Sounds Like Sunset, just before their second album was released. Then Magic Dirt circa 2007, and they would have to play “Horror Me” because that song is amazing live.
I only have the stamina to watch two sets.
Although I must say the Rice Is Nice gig on July 1 at The Annandale was pretty fantastic.
