JEBS ALIVE

Jebediah have come full circle it seems. After a disjointed yet extended hiatus, one of the stalwarts of Australian rock will go back to where it all began; Murdoch University. Back in ’95 the band represented the uni at the Australian National Campus Bands Competition and will return on Friday, February 11, for the University Guild Festival.

This legendary line-up will be playing Perth Motorplex, Kwinana Beach on Saturday, April 23, with tickets on-sale now through Ticketmaster. Rock on.

X-PRESSIONS

Well what do you know… Muslims want freedom too. If you were to believe the hype over the past decade, the free world was under attack by a hate-mongering horde of lunatics heaven-bent on blowing freedom to oblivion; and all for measly romp with a couple of virgins and a pitiful patch of paradise.

DIESEL TANKED

DIESEL TANKED

One of Australia’s most accomplished axe-men, Diesel, is also the brother-in-law of Jimmy Barnes and a genius in his own right. Now isn’t that a family teeming with talent. The man who got this name from pumping fuel as a youngster is releasing an EP which pays homage to the artists which have inspired him over the past few decades. A nationwide tour will accompany The 7 Axes EP release, which includes tracks from Hendrix, Neil Young and Otis Redding. He touches down at The Fly By Night on Saturday, March 26.

LION HEART

LION HEART

What is it about the seemingly idyllic Byron Bay which produces the brutality of bands like 50 Lions and Parkway Drive? Chicks in string bikinis and massive waves don’t agree with everyone, it seems. Anyway, 50 Lions are now a staple in Aussie hardcore scene, building their reputation on an insane live presence which has seen them share stages with metal-mongers Carpathian, Parkway Drive, Terror, Madball and Down To Nothing. The trio hit Amplifier on Friday, February 18, plus Bunbury on Saturday, February 19, and conclude at YMCA HQ on Sunday, February 20. Heavy shit.

SCOTTO SCREAM

Fooken ‘ell! Former bassist for The Stone Roses and current member of psychedelic rock stalwarts Primal Scream, Gary Manny ‘Mani’ Mounfield is going to be doing his own BDO warm up party at The Flying Scotsman this Saturday, February 5… for free! This is going to be an indie-britpop-rave mashup that no music lover should miss, and will run from 7pm to 1am. FYI: Mani is really, really good at darts and loves Manchester United, just in case you get down early and want to strike up conversation with a legend.

HEIRS LOOMS

HEIRS LOOMS

Melbourne-based quartet, Heirs are poised to hit Perth with their brand of devastatingly dark, ear-splitting instrumentals. Word is they have the ability to “drag you into something comparable to a drug-induced death trip or a slow descent into a Lovecraftian netherworld”. Intriguing. With a brand new album, Fowl, to unleash on your little eardrums, Heirs are playing Saturday, March 26, at The Bakery and tickets are only $15 from lifeisnoise.com or the usual outlets.

KING’S BUM

KING’S BUM

Nathan Followill obviously doesn’t warm up before gigs then. The highly anticipated Kings Of Leon tour has been postponed until November after the drummer needed surgery on a torn labrum and bicep, and doctors have advised that at least three months will be required to recover. Ouch. “Sorry to all the fans in Australia and South Africa. My bum wing needs more time to heal but we’ll be back again later this year,” Nathan says For updates on a new tour itinerary and Followill’s ‘bum wing’ keep tabs on frontiertouring.com.
