PURPLE SIZZURP

Heading over east to support a little known artist known as Eminem, four time Grammy Award winning rapper Lil Wayne has added a Perth headlining show to his Australian tour. Set to take place at Burswood Dome on Friday, November 25, Wayne will show us why he’s sold over 10 million records and why he grossed over $40 million on 2009 US tour. Since his highly publicised stint in Riker Island prison in New York, he’s returned to the top of the US charts with Tha Carter IV while his label, Young Money, has gone from strength to strength with the successes of Drake and Nicki Minaj. Tickets go on sale from Ticketek on Friday, November 25.

WAVE OF MUTILATION

Who can really blame Courtney Love for pulling Hole out of Soundwave? After all, it’s a bit creepy that Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst has her dead husband’s face tattooed above his left nipple. But fear not, as the organisers have added another fistful of bands for their annual travelling circus of all things metal, punk and hard rock. Appearing alongside System Of A Down, Slipknot, Marilyn Manson and countless more at Claremont Showgrounds on Monday, March 5, are punk heroes Bad Religion, Strung Out, Staind, Wednesday 13, Unearth, The Pretty Reckless, Cathedral, Shadows Fall, Tonight Alive, Motionless In White, Heaven Shall Burn, Your Demise, A Rocket To The Moon, The Ready Set, The Menzingers, Dream On Dreamer, Kittie, Dredg, Attack! Attack!, The Smoking Hearts, The Summer Set and Perth’s own Break Even. Tickets are on sale now through soundwavefestival.com, Oztix and Tickete for $164 plus BF.

HUNTER R.I.P.

After a two year battle with cancer, local rapper Robert Hunter passed away last Thursday, October 20, surrounded by his family and friends. He was 36. Hunter played a pivotal role in establishing the Perth hip hop scene, earning a reputation as a battle rapper in the ‘90s before releasing the now-classic DoneDL, a collaboration with close friend Dazastah, in 2002. His only solo effort Going Back To Yokine followed in 2006 and in 2010 he released Monster House with Sydney producer DJ Vame.

DAMN THE MAN

DAMN THE MAN

Celebrating 35 years of noise, archetypal punk rockers The Damned are making a triumphant return to Australia this January. Fronted by original members, guitarist/singer Captain Sensible and theatrical singer Dave Vanian, as well as long time members Monty Oxy Moron, Pinch and Stu West, The Damned return with one mission in mind: to wreak anarchy, chaos and destruction across the nation. Though the Sex Pistols became the most publicised of all the original London punk groups, it was The Damned who scored some of the most notable ‘firsts’ of the movement, particularly the first UK punk single and genuine punk anthem New Rose in 1976.  Catch them at Capitol on Sunday, January 22. Tickets from the usual outlets.

WEST IS BEST

The nominees for this year’s ARIA Awards have just been announced and we’re pleased to say that plenty of WA acts have made the cut, cementing the myth that there really is something distinctly musical in the water here. Big ups to Drapht who has scored seven nominations for The Life Of Riley, including Best Urban Album, Single Of The Year, Most Popular Australian Artist, Best Male Artist plus many more. Local lads Eskimo Joe have also been lavished with praise, with nominations for Best Group, Album Of The Year, Best Video and Best Rock Album, among others. Perth rockers Birds Of Tokyo have scored themselves five nominations, including Highest Selling Album, Most Popular Australian Artist, Best Group and Single Of The Year. Big congrats to all the nominees – we’ll be crossing our fingers and toes when the ARIA Awards go down in Sydney on Sunday, November 27.

DAYZ OF JUSTICE

That’s right peeps, French electro powerhouse duo Justice have joined the Summadayze 2012 line-up. Hell yes! We’re all eagerly waiting the official release of their new album Audio, Video, Disco, which is set for release on Friday, October 21. The record is said to stray from their dance music roots and is a looser and heavier offering; a concoction of rock, electronica and pop if you will. Civilization has already taken the world by storm and now Australian fans will be the first to set eyes upon Gaspard Auge and Xavier de Rosnay’s brand new live show. Summadayze 2012 hits Sir James Mitchell Park on Tuesday, January 3, 2012. Tickets are on sale from Ticketmaster now. Get set for a serious horse power parade!

Rounding out the first announcement is My Chemical Romance, The Living End, Hilltop Hoods, Battles, Odd Future, Mariachi El Bronx, Girl Talk, Parkway Drive, Royksopp, Foster The People, The Jezabels, Architecture In Helsinki, The Getaway Plan, Cage The Elephant, Frenzal Rhomb, Boy & Bear, Best Coast and, in a nod to early BDOs, skateboarding legend Tony Hawk.
