Like a maximalist My Disco, Making strike like a sonic punch to the solar plexus. Highlife is their debut record, a frantic kaleidoscope of precision noise rock, all cascading guitars and shotgun rhythms. The Sydney trio make a beautiful cacophony with their creative destruction, crafting complex melodies only to shatter them moments later. On each of Highlife’s six tracks, there’s a nervous feeling like the glass is about to break, the walls are about to collapse and every structural foundation is moments from fracturing into shards. Highlife is the sound you hear in your head when the fears that keep you up at 4am come true.

It’s lucky Highlife ever came to be. After gathering dust in label limbo for months that stretched into more than a year, Making got tired of broken promises and pulled the plug on their relationship with their would-be label benefactor. MOULIN ROUGE DINNER SHOW

In April 2010 Earl Cole Music and Bouchon Bistro presented a tribute to ‘Moulin Rouge’ to sell out audiences. The great news is ‘Moulin Rouge’ is back at Bouchon on June 22.

Earl Cole and Chelsea J Gibson, two of Perth’s premier entertainers, will perform music from the blockbuster Australian movie ‘Moulin Rouge’ together with songs made famous by Edith Piaf and a selection of other well known cabaret tunes. Burlesque dancers ‘Lady Velvet’ will add visual appeal with fabulous routines and stunning costumes.

The cost per person for the Moulin Rouge dinner show is $110 inclusive of a three course meal. A group booking discount of $100 per head is available for tables of six or more. PERTH’S FINEST PERFORMERS AT MOSMAN’S

Four of Perth’s finest performers will be paying tribute to the three of the greatest composers of the 20th Century – brothers Ira and George Gershwin and the incomparable Cole Porter. Accompanied by piano maestro David Wickham, vocalists Earl Cole, Jay Weston and Clara Helms will be singing a selection of the Gershwin’s and Porter’s most recognisable tunes from the Great American Songbook.

THE BIG ARVO BASH

The 30^th April brings artists The Reefers, Variety Choir, Anita Downs Trio, Ben Blend, Baby Jane, Pyramid of the Coyote and Dakota to Café Pronto, Mandurah for ‘The Big Arvo Bash’. Tickets are $25 each and all proceeds go to Variety Bash Car 72. There will be crazy crab races, $6 pints, $5 Coronas and the flame grilled menu options from $5. The fun kicks off at 2pm.

MY DISCO

In what will be their first and only Australian tour for 2011, Melbourne trio My Disco play the Bakery on Saturday April 16 to launch the deluxe double LP version of their 2010 release Little Joy. Each record will come complete with a 24” x 24” fold out poster, etched vinyl and a free MP3 download, plus there will also be a limited number of green and white swirled LPs available.

Little Joy, My Disco’s third album, was released in October of last year to much fanfare, with Rolling Stone deeming it their “finest yet”, and The Vine describing it as “crushingly, terrifyingly great: so far ahead of the pack as to be in a different universe altogether”.
