Sally Seltmann, Holly Throsby and Sarah Blasko, who are all individually some of Australia’s most loved performers, have joined forces to create a band which combines their songwriting talents, beautiful voices and gorgeous arrangements. As everyone probably already knows, the Nobel Peace prize winning Dalai Lama is coming to Perth very shortly. To celebrate, a bunch of amazing artists are getting together to put on Songs For The Dalai Lama, which will feature the Dalai Lama himself and performances by Tim Rogers, Tex Perkins And The Dark Horses, Gurrumul, Katie Noonan’s Elixir Trio, Old Man River, Lior with String Quartet, Adalita, Luka Bloom, Lyrics Born, Tenzin Choegyal, The Gyuto Monks Of Tibet and the Nobel Funk Off. It’s all happening on Sunday, June 19, at Burswood Dome, from 2pm. Tickets for this all ages event are on sale now from Ticketek from $40.

PLANET OF THE WEEDS

After reforming in 2009 for the Homebake festival, WA fans of Wollongong-based stoner rockers Tumbleweed have waited with baited breath for the band to mosey on West. Well the time has finally come! The band that famously opened for Nirvana on their 1992 Australian tour are heading out on tour next month and you can see them at the Indi Bar on Friday, June 10; The Rosemount on Saturday, June 11; and Mojo’s on Sunday, June 12. Roll up, roll up.

And with the flick of a trigger the United States Of America finally eradicated its bearded bogeyman. With its key mandate to capture Osama bin Laden – the ghastly godfather of tyranny – “dead or alive”, does this mean the war in Afghanistan is (yet again) mission accomplished? You don’t need to be a member of the CIA command to answer that.
