Anger Management: Blood Ceremony

Tuesday, May 14th, 2013

We check in with all things heavy on RTRFM’s Critical Mass show.

Canadian 4 piece Blood Ceremony return with their third album The Eldritch Dark at a perfect time. Black Sabbath have returned with new material and Ghost have just released their second album to critical acclaim. With the backing (and credibility) of cult label Rise Above, their blend of ‘70s style doom rock/metal mixed with folkier elements is seemingly more popular than ever.

The new album tones down the more ‘doomier’ elements in favour of a ‘dark/occult rock’ sound, more Sabbath than the fuzzed out doom of Electric Wizard. This allows vocalist Alia O’Brien’s flute and organ sounds a chance to compliment the guitars instead of sounding gimmicky (check the instrumental ‘Faunus’ for some awesome guitar/flute interplay).

Lead single ‘Goodbye Gemini’ is a catchy track destined to gain the band a league of new fans curious about their unique doom via Jethro Tull via Coven sound.
