Anger Management: Claim The Throne

Wednesday, September 18th, 2013

We check in with all things heavy on RTRFM’s Critical Mass show.

Local Medieval metal makers Claim The Throne return with their most solid effort to date with their latest release Forged In Flame.

We received a promo for this just a week ago, and before the CD was even put in the player I found myself taken back to memories of this band’s many beer-soaked shows over the years to adoring audiences.

How does Forged In Flame compare to Ale Tales? Well Brendon Capriotti has assembled a more stable lineup this time around. Two new members grace the band photo pages of the booklet in Glenn Dyson, and drummer Ash Large, who also had a hand in the recording duties. It’s a little less “jokey” I suppose, and more all guns blazing, straight ahead metal with the personalities of the band washing over the band’s music, or influencing the band’s sound.

The album certainly packs a punch early, especially with “A Grand Destruction” and “Zephyrus”. But it’s not until the second half of the album where Forged In Flame really gets going. “Essence of a Scorched Realm” really cranks up the tempo to the back end of the album.

You won’t really completely understand what Claim The Throne are all about until you see them live. Yeah sure, pick up the album, but when you see Claim The Throne on a gig flyer next, make an effort to go see them, I promise it will all make sense.
