DARK SPACE

There’s always something happening at PICA. Decibel are a Perth new music group who present music featuring acoustics and electronic instruments in concert formats. Sounds interesting? You are correct. The first in a series of three concerts in the main space at PICA, A Voice From The Dark Space is all about studying the dark, quiet and mysterious landscape and challenging the diffusion of music into composition, installation and sound art divisions – bringing them all together.

GETTING STRANGE

GETTING STRANGE

Still one of the most revered bands of the ’60s, The Doors are both familiar and yet strangely enigmatic. Unlike anything you’ve seen about the band before, When You’re Strange tells the story of The Doors using a wealth of restored archive material much of which has never been seen, moving from Ray Manzarek’s student films through to some truly incredible live footage of Jim Morrison in full on cop-baiting, swaggering Jimbo mode.

YOU WEASEL!

The progressive blues rock three-piece Sneaky Weasel Gang are back in town tomorrow. Hailing from Mandurah, the boys have travelled extensively across our large country to hone their craft. They play a raucous combo of rock, funk and blues and even Triple J picked them up back in 2007 when they got hold of one of their demos. The lads then went on to win a WAMi nomination for Best Newcomer in 2008 and have played Rollercoaster, Blues & Roots, Wave Rock Weekender and Fairbridge Folk Festival.

INFECTING AUSTRALIA

Minimalist art-pop duo Yellowfever are preparing for their very first visit to Australia following a string of dates throughout the US. With drums, guitar, organ and synth bass underlying jerky rhythms and willowy arrangements, Yellowfever are a highly talented kooky pair who manage to faultlessly balance the complex with the refreshingly sparse. Catch the Fever at The Bird on Saturday, May 7, and Mojo’s on Sunday, May 8.
