Vinyl Retention: Flume

Wednesday, November 14th, 2012

Every Wednesday, Sardi lets us know what’s tickling his eardrums in the world of dance music…

FlumeAfter releasing a couple of EPs and remixing the likes of Hermitude and our own local hero Ta-ku, Sydney-based beat maker Flume is unleashing his self-titled long player.

If you like your wonky beats and low slung grooves, you’ll love Flume’s latest work. The 14-track release features a slew of guests and does a great job in keeping the vibe consistent, whilst still managing to push some electronic experimentation.

A fine debut from this young producer, joining the ever-growing list of Australian producers pushing the wonky sound forward.

If you like what you hear, be sure to tune in to RTRFM’s Full Frequency between 3pm and 5pm, as Sardi and Dart explore the world of Drum and Bass and beyond.

Dick Diver — “Alice”

Monday, November 12th, 2012

Dick DiverMelbourne’s Dick Diver have just released a brilliantly jangly and semi-upbeat single, “Alice”.

“Alice” is also available in EP form, being bundled with some bits and pieces, including “previously unreleased Dick Diver gems Future Self 1 (the precursor to Future Self 2, which appeared on New Start Again), the swaggering Michael Jackson, a great wonky cover of Mum Smokes’ 1949, and an acoustic version of classic Walk For Room, the opening track from Arks Up.”

Take a listen to “Alice” below, or stream/download the whole EP over at the Dick Diver Bandcamp page.

Vinyl Retention: S3

Wednesday, November 7th, 2012

Every Wednesday, Sardi lets us know what’s tickling his eardrums in the world of dance music…

Responsible for one of my favorite albums of 2011, Miles Bonny, the man from Kansas City, is back with a new long player aptly titled Supa Soul Sh*t.

Miles teams up with beatmaker Brenk Sinatra under the guise of S3 to bring us an album full of groove laden hip hop beats and smooth soul vocals.

The pairing of the two is perfect. Brenk brings the beats whilst Miles bring the vocals and his main instrument, the trumpet. It’s hip hop the way it should be, reminiscent of classic tracks from back in the day, but with a much more refined and polished approach, both in regards to the production and song structure.

If you like what you hear, be sure to tune in to RTRFM’s Full Frequency between 3pm and 5pm, as Sardi and Dart explore the world of Drum and Bass and beyond.
