Vinyl Retention: DJ Koze

Wednesday, March 27th, 2013

Every Wednesday, Sardi lets us know what’s tickling his eardrums in the world of electronic music…

Amygdala — a structure in the limbic system that is linked to emotions and aggression. The amygdala functions to control fear responses and the formation of emotional memories. Aptly titled, Stefan Kozalla, known to fans worldwide as DJ Koze, finally drops his sophomore album Amygdala after a lengthy eight-year wait.

They say Germans are cold and clinical, yet Koze’s work including his new LP ooze warmth, depth and soul all wrapped up within the loose boundaries of electronica. Featuring notable collaborations with artists as diverse as Caribou, Mathew Dear & Apparat, the album takes us through familiar House & Techno territory whilst also exploring slower broken beat tempos all the while maintaining a traditional song ‘feel’ to the music, an often difficult thing to achieve in electronic music.

Well worth checking out. Don’t let the cover sway you.

If you like what you hear, be sure to tune in to RTRFM’s Full Frequency between 3pm & 5pm, as Sardi and Dart explore the latest beats & bass from around the globe.
